This autumn in London there’s going to be a fashion spectacular. A huge Valentino retrospective will be installed in Somerset House. Covering 50 years of his work, it also features a 60 metre catwalk.

Even if you can’t get to London, you can still have a bit of Valentino in your home. If you know anything about this fashion designer, you know that he’s famous for his use of bright red – it’s even called ‘Valentino Red’.

Red is such a attention-getting colour, especially this orangey punchy shade, and it can work wonders in your environment.  Diana Vreeland famously painted the walls of her whole apartment red, but if you don’t want to go quite that far, it plays very nicely as a bright colour accent.

Mr Impossible Chair from Kartell by Philippe Starck

These Mr Impossible Chairs by Philippe Starck are actually a lot more comfortable than you might think to look at them, and I love the beautifully translucent look they have in this red-orange shade.

Jive Metal Ceiling Pendant Light in Hot Red

This Nordlux light would look great in an otherwise muted room.

This Vitra Uten.Silo is a design classic, and the perfect way to organise a home office or a kid’s room.

Finally, for something a bit more affordable, I love this Venezia cushion by Helena Carrington from notonthehighstreet.com. It’s got that beautiful bright orange-red colour, given a twist with some 50s style illustration.
